The Red Panda Network are working towards a future where red pandas thrive!

Red pandas are classified as endangered as they face threats in the wild from deforestation and exploitation by humans.

Who are the Red Panda Network?

The Red Panda Network is a leading non-profit organisation dedicated to protecting red pandas and their native forests. Since it's creation in 2007, the Red Panda Network's programmes have extended to over one million acres of forest across Eastern Nepal, securing the area for the conservation of red pandas and other local wildlife. Using a holistic approach, unting people, wildlife and the planet, the Red Panda Network is creating a future where red pandas thrive and are valued by all.

How do they help?

The biggest threats to red pandas in the wild is deforestation and exploitation by humans who seek profit from trading in these majestic creatures. The Red Panda Network currently collaborates with local government agencies to conduct in-depth research on red pandas, helping to inform local conservation strategies and increase our knowledge of their presence. Community-based red panda monitoring programmes involve employing local people to act as forest guardians for their region, ensuring wildlife remains safe from poachers. The Red Panda Network is working closely with local communities to develop sustainable livelihoods and to educate and empower them to live in harmony with their environment. Women are supported through the provision of alternative incomes, and red panda eco-clubs formed in local schools are providing children with the opportunity to learn about environmental conservation. In attempts to safeguard their remaining forest habitat, the community reforestation programme is facilitating the planting of trees across the red panda range, allowing the species to disperse and keeping the population genetically diverse.

How do we support them?

At Blackpool Zoo, we support the Red Panda Network by funding red panda community conservation where it's needed the most. Educational outreach allows us to promote the work of this organisation, which is a leading advocate for the protection and conservation of red pandas in the wild.
