Blackpool Zoo Conservation Volunteers 2010


Over the 6 weeks summer holidays (26th July-3rd September) the conservation & education team will deliver 6 weeks of conservation related activities to promote the plight of the critically endangered Mediterranean monk seal.


This year’s main fundraising efforts will be centred on the ‘CBD-Habitat Foundation Mauritania monk seal project’ in support of our parent organisation Parques Reunidos and their other UK attractions, Bournemouth Oceanarium & Aquarium of the Lakes.

Conservation


So what does being a conservation volunteer entail?


Fundraising efforts for the 2010 summer period will include:

• Marine touch tables – marine HM custom seized artefacts will be on display for our visitors to experience. Artefacts to be used will include various turtle shells (green marine, hawksbill & loggerhead), sharks jaw & teeth, coral and Queen conch shell.
• Activity table - badge making, colouring competition & ‘Throw the sea a line’ game to generate awareness of the campaign & funds
• Active Oceans Arena – donation collections at our 4 times daily California Sea Lion displays
• Face painting – by activities staff but supported by education staff if needed
• Various touch tables (staff permitting) – various HM custom seized artefacts will be on display for our visitors at the Big Cat House (tiger skin, lion & tiger skulls, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) including tiger bone wine or at the Elephant House (Elephant foot, leather, ivory & tooth)


Hours

• Commitment to at least 1 set day a week between 26th July-3rd Sept) or a set period (e.g. a period of 2 weeks)
• Daily hours are between 10.30am and 5pm

SEASONAL PLAYBARN GENERAL ASSISTANTS

We currently have vacancies for full and part time seasonal general assistants in the Playbarn. 

Duties include assisting in the day to day activities of a large children's indoor play area including catering, working tills, admissions and keeping all work and customers areas clean and tidy.

Experience of working in children's play environment would be an advantage, although not essential.  Full training will be given.
